GRIFFIS SUMMER MUSIC FESTIVAL

Pack a blanket, a picnic, and sunscreen and head to Griffis Sculpture Park on August 11 for the Summer Music Festival. Enjoy a full day of creativity on stage and off when you explore the sculptures, tour the art vendors, and grab a seat or a dancing spot for Dead Phish Funk (with Critt and Friends), Funktional Flow and PA Line. There will be food, beer and wine on grounds for purchase.  You can either hike the 10-minute walk uphill to the main stage or hit up the shuttle that will escort you and your cooler up there.  Tickets are available at the door for $20, but advance tickets are on sale now and available for just $15.  Gates open at noon.  See you there!

 

STONE TOWER TALKS AT ALLEGANY STATE PARK

The Allegany State Park Historical Society and The Friends of Allegany State Park are hosting walks on the weekends for park visitors to discover the Summit Fire Tower.  Meet anytime from 11am to 1pm on Saturdays at the Summit Fire Tower. The Summit Fire Tower is a short walk on the Art Roscoe Cross Country Ski and Mountain Bike area trail.  You will learn history of the Fire Tower, what it was used for, how it was built, and see historic photos.  You can ask any questions you may have! These free events are open to the public and weather dependent. The program will continue every Saturday now until October 12, 2019.

 

WILD WING FEST AT GOOSENECK HILL WATERFOWL SANCTUARY

Gooseneck Hill Waterfowl Sanctuary, the largest covered waterfowl sanctuary in the world, is having their annual Wild Wing Festival on Sunday, August 25 from 12-5pm at the sanctuary.  Admission is only $5.  Guided Bird tours will be given throughout the day and are $2 for each tour.  Food will be available and provided by The Colden Mill Restaurant.  Price of food ranges from $2-5 and includes ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken, salads, and desserts. Enjoy music by the "Hick Ups” - a Bluegrass and Country band from The Southern Tier of Western New York.  The band mixes traditional bluegrass, old country and rock songs into an enjoyable, fun format.  Whether it be Johnny Cash or Hank Williams, Flatt and Scruggs, or a “hicked up” Rolling Stones or Bangles tune, the band serves up audience friendly, good-time music. Gooseneck Hill does not receive any government funding or grants. They have 700 endangered and protected ducks, geese and swans from all over the world. All the birds can fly this 5-acre sanctuary.

2019 marks the 13th year of Olean Theatre Workshop's presentation of Shakespeare's plays in an outdoor setting.  Presenting "Hamlet" this summer, you can bring a lawn chair, picnic, and a blanket and enjoy Elizabethian-style theater.  Hamlet, written by Shakespeare sometime between 1599 and 1602, depicts Prince Hamlet and his revenge against his uncle Claudius, who has murdered Hamlet's father in order to seize his throne and marry Hamlet's mother.
