If you are looking for outdoor recreation equipment, look no further than the Sportsman’s Outlet in Bradford, Pa. Owned by Ben Wentworth, The Sportsman’s Outlet touts itself as “the local headquarters for everything outdoors.” Take one look inside this store, located at 500 Chestnut Street, and you’ll see why.
Interested in hunting? There are tree stands, camouflage, calls and apparel. Fishing more your game? How about live bait, rods, reels and tackle. And that is just the tip of the iceberg. One of the most popular items Wentworth sells is footwear, according to his father, Ben Wentworth Sr. This includes work and hunting boots as well as Minnetonka moccasins.
The Sportsman’s Outlet opened its doors about three and a half years ago, and has been at its current location since April 2011. The added space in the new location allowed Wentworth to expand his inventory, adding guns and ammunition to his list of available retail. He carries everything from rifles to handguns to crossbows and scopes.
“We were trying to expand the business,” Wentworth said, adding that the current location is about 8,000 square feet. “We wanted to add firearms and a gift shop.”
That gift shop, which is rich with home décor, frames, candles, novelty items and jams, is a must-visit place for anyone looking for something unique to buy the outdoors enthusiast in their life. If you know someone building a “man cave,” come here to help stock it with all kinds of masculine necessities.
The store also has a healthy supply of camping equipment, which includes tents, cots, camp chairs and sleeping bags.
Probably the most prominent item the store sells is its canoes and kayaks, which are the first thing you see when you approach the outside of the building. Here, you will find Old Towne Brand, life jackets and paddles.
Oh, and don’t forget about the clothing. You want it - they will probably have it. The clothing runs the gamut from men’s, women’s, youth and infant and accessories. Want a nice jacket? Check. How about socks? Check. A nightie for the ladies? Check.
And while the store prides itself on extending great prices to its customers, it also features a “closeout balcony.”
“These are items we got a good price on and want to pass along to the customers,” Wentworth said of the items that are available at 25 to 90 percent off.
Even if you don’t know what you are looking for, stop by anyway. Chances are there will be something there you can’t live without.
The store is open from 9am-6pm every day except Sundays when it is closed. Store hours may change by the seasons, so it’s best to call ahead. You can find out more about the Sportsman’s Outlet by checking out their website at www.ShopSportmansOutlet.com or by calling 814-362-7700.
